The areas I gravitate to are blues, rock, and jazz, but I'm always up for a challenge if there's something that's caught your interest. Fusion of styles has also always fascinated me. I can teach basic chords to improvisation and modal scales with everything in between, including the theory to help put it all in proportion. I'll help you find the answers and techniques you're looking for to get to where you want to be. Wherever that is. I believe highly in the benefit of learning and understa…

STYLES: Any professional musician must feel comfortable playing in a wide variety of styles. From an early age, I was pushed into genres and techniques that I did not feel comfortable with at first, but today, I am proud to say that I have never had to turn down a gig due to an inability to play the genre authentically. I pride myself on being able to play will great feel and purpose, while having an excellent grasp of the technique and formal theory behind what I am doing. GENRES: I feel I a…

I have a lot of experience teaching students who are brand new to their instrument. I believe the beginning is a very important time to start building a solid foundation for all future musical growth. I love being able to help my students establish good habits from the beginning and influence the overall direction of a new student’s musical experience. I love music of all kinds and have fun playing and teaching all the instruments that I listed. However, the two instruments that I have the mo…

Children's Instruments for Miniature Musicians

Children’s Instruments for Miniature Musicians

May 29, 2009   Marisa Belger

As W flings his miniature body across his miniature piano, creating an avalanche of sound with his stomach and knees and feet (note: his hands are nowhere near the keys), I wonder if he inherited his father’s musical ability or if he’ll end up like me—tone deaf and instrument-phobic, left playing the egg shaker at his in-laws’ family gatherings.

I hope for the best and so encourage his musical experimentation (until the headache creeps up and begs for a quiet, introspective child prone to reading and drawing and other silent activities) with a variety of kid-sized instruments like Melissa and Doug’s piano complete with color-coded keys and songbook. Plan Toys also nurtures novice musicians with a starter baby drum or a more advanced drum set made from natural rubber wood and non-toxic paints....
