To achieve these energy savings, the Bravia WE5 uses a micro-tubular HCFL (Hot Cathode Flourescent Lamp) backlight that cuts power consumption by more than 50%, and a Smart Presence Sensor. The Smart Presence Sensor is what really makes the Bravia WE5 a lazy TV watcher’s dream. And here’s why: Let’s say you were to leave the den with the TV still on. The Smart Presence Sensor will detect that there is no movement in the room and after 30 minutes, it will automatically go into standby mode. And when you come back in, it will turn back on. If you are concerned the screen will shut off while you are sitting in front of it watching a movie or an important game, have no fear: this sensor registers even the slightest movement, even breathing. and will stay powered on.
