Since 1974, runners from all over the world have traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to participate in one of the most scenic and enjoyable marathons in the U.S., the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon.

You're invited to join more than 3,500 runners as they wind through Anchorage's award winning trail system during Alaska's summer solstice. The course offers scenic vistas and wildlife viewing opportunities as it travels from the foothills of the Chugach Mountains to the steely waters of Cook Inlet.

The marathon attracts local Anchorage runners as well as athletes from out of state; almost a third of the 317 finishers in 2011 were from out of town and many belonged to the Fifty States Marathon Club or to Marathon Maniacs. The course is relatively flat, is USATF-certified, and is a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The marathon course winds through downtown streets, then heads out onto the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. When runners reach Westchester Lagoon (approximately mile 3), they bear right to continue along the Coastal trail. They follow the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail alongside Knik Arm to a turnaround point known by locals as "the Blue Bridge." Runners then head north back to Westchester Lagoon where they veer right (east) onto the Chester Creek Trail. From the Chester Creek turnaround at Goose Lake, runners return to the Lagoon and head back to the finish line in downtown Anchorage.

Join us for fun, injury-free group runs! The Galloway Training Program is open to anyone who is interested in fulfilling a lifetime goal: to run a marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5k, 10 miler or just get started. The training group welcomes all levels, from beginners to Boston qualifiers. Pace groups are set up to ensure a comfortable and safe training pace for every ability. If you're not certain about whether to join, come with us for a free test run.

The Girls on the Run SoleMates program provides adults an opportunity to raise money for Girls on the Run while training for the athletic event of their choice. SoleMates set personal goals such as running in a marathon or 10k event to raise money for Girls on the Run in their community. Each year, our SoleMates raise critically needed funds that ensure our councils are able to serve more girls in their communities.
