Mens Grooming - Natural, Organic Shaving Creams, Oils and Kits

Mens Grooming - Natural, Organic Shaving Creams, Oils and Kits

December 20, 2009   Pete Stacker

Even the manliest man shaves his face once in a while. I can still remember my father showing me how to spew chemical foam from a can onto my hand, then smear it evenly onto my face and down my neck. Or at least I can remember a TV Dad or two doing that, maybe Wonder Years, Different Strokes or Doogie?

Then a few years ago we witnessed the advent of shaving gel. That took some of the sting out of the procedure. And now the next evolution in mens grooming has arrived: the natural, organic shave.

I imagine the manliest of ancient wisemen — say the cavemen from the Geico commercials — rubbing a thick, natural lather on their faces before commencing the ritual shave in a fresh mountain stream. It’s time to return to the chemical-free, non-toxic shave of our prehistoric brethren, “Because macho and toxic needn’t be linked” (translated from cave wall).

To jumpstart your natural shave, Burt’s Bees has put together an excellent kit including organic aftershave, shave cream, body wash, bar soap and lip balm — they’ve thrown in a sweet dopp (bag) for good measure.

My personal favorites:

The Alba organic cream shave , which requires just a dollop and feels more like a gel than a cream, is the cleanest shave I’ve felt in some time and that’s because I really only shave some-times. If you’re more the shave everyday type of chap, I highly recommend the Pacific All Natural Shaving Oil . It’s a revelatory product. I repeat, revelatory. It will transform your daily shave from mindless routine to prideful ritual. You get 100 shaves out of a bottle small enough for air travel. That’s remarkable efficiency on top of the obvious long-term health benefits and environmental consciousness.
