Natural & Organic Shampoo for Dry, Oily, or Damaged Hair and Dandruff

Natural & Organic Shampoo for Dry, Oily, or Damaged Hair and Dandruff

September 10, 2009   Marisa Belger

There are a handful of things that I prefer not to think about and shampoo is close to the top of that list. When I step into the shower and reach—often groggy and unfocused—for that bottle of sudsy goodness, I expect it to be there. This is why I try to buy my hair cleansing products in bulk—in organic, all natural bulk. I seek out shampoo that will get the job done without synthetic preservatives, fragrance or color. And I try to accomplish all of this without blowing my child’s college fund. Thankfully, it’s now possible for a single bottle of shampoo to be many good things: safe, affordable and designed to address your hair’s specific needs (dry, oil, color-treated, etc.)

If all is well, I’ll have one of these bottles stashed in my shower at all times:

Blue cypress is paired with calming tea tree and organic peppermint oils in Nature’s Gate Tea Tree Oil & Blue Cypress Shampoo ($23.97, pack of three). If you struggle with oily hair, dandruff or any other irritating head/hair conditions, it’s time to check out this shampoo, designed to calm the itchiest of scalps.

I love Giovanni. Yes, I love Giovanni. Giovanni Hair Care. The name sounds like the Italian lover I never had, the shampoo is overflowing with organic ingredients and the rectangle bottles sit perfectly in my shower rack. I’m particularly crazy for Root 66 Max Volume ($6.69), which I use when going for the “big” look (also works for those looking to add life to limp locks).

I’m not a shampoo-every-day kind of girl. The unpredictable waves that make up my tresses get crazy if they’re squeaky clean day in and day out. But I know some of you don’t feel human unless you start the day with a head full of lather. That’s where Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo ($8.29) comes in. The gentle cleanser can be used every day without damaging a precious strand...
